Where the Magic Happens

Ok, "where the magic happens", my bedroom... Ok, first thing I'd like to note is that every single wall in my house is wood paneling. Not the fake kind, but like, somebody cut up a tree into planks and then used the planks to make the wall (probably because that's what happened). Josh thinks it's the greatest thing in the world. I have come to terms with the fact that I hate wood and cannot wait to live in a house with white painted walls. Anyway, let us begin...

My favorite part of our bedroom is our set of linens. It was one of the first things for our house that we picked out together that we both loved.

Next, and rather more embarrasing, is our window... I love it. It is huge. Josh hates it. He sleeps during the day. SO, we have black curtains (which actually kinda match our bed set, so it's ok), a black out curtain on one window, and sweatshirts thrown over the top of the curtain rod to block out the light which streams in from that direction (hey it's called real life. It's not pretty, but it makes Josh a happier individual which makes me a happier individual). This way, our bedroom is what Josh likes to call a "cave". This allows him to work a 12 hour night shift at the hospital, and still come home and sleep in relative darkness. Also, we have a window unit because our 50 year-old house does not have central heating and air, and Louisiana has ridiculously hot summers.

These are the beds where the puppies sleep. There's not much to tell here except that they don't actually sleep in their beds because they prefer the hard floor, but at least we tried.

Lastly, my dresser, or should I say, my drawers, they are built directly into the wall and (though I hate wood) I love them. Sometimes that whole "hand built house" thing can be really cool. (And yes, I totally just left Josh's shorts on the floor where he threw them this morning. Again, it's real life, right?)

I think natural paneling is cool. It's the fake crap that's SOOOOOOOO disgusting.

You know you can paint the wood, right? Just sand it, prime it, and then paint to your heart's content! I think a dusty blue, or a cream would look fab with your black accents!

I need my room to be a cave too! I like those built ins! That is a cool touch. Our bedroom has that fake paneling. I hate it too (it's not as bad since we painted it, but I still go bleh!)

I know how to eliminate all the light coming through the window. Check out http://www.blackoutEZ.com. They make a window cover for night shifters that completely darkens the room. If you think your room is dark now, wait until you try these window covers. You will not know if the sun is up or down.

Funny how your dogs don't sleep in their beds. I had a dog that was the same but everytime I got her a pillow or bed she ate it or peed on it. The built ins are cool!

What about painting the wood white? I think that would look so crisp- although maybe too cottage-y for your taste (looking at your bed set). I love the built in drawer.

We have wood paneling like that in our living room. We hate it, but as renters there's nothing we can do. Yours doesn't happen to cause splinters does it? Ours has been known to give the kids a splinter or two. It's so bad.

Your bedding is lovely. My hubby would be so jealous if he saw them. He works nights as well, and has asked me to put garbage bags on the windows! (I didn't!)
Great room!
