I Promise I'll Write a Real Post Soon!

First... ok people, this is another booger moment. I'm looking for complete honesty here. This is not the time to make me feel good about myself. This is not the time to be diplomatic. I need you to keep it real. My sister has requested my advice, and I'm enlisting you all (with her permission). She's wondering about the price of her bags. Is $40 too much? Too little? Just right? HONESTY people. If you're uncomfortable putting your real thoughts into comment form, shoot me an email at lbspringer@gmail.com Seriously, help a sister out :)
But until then... My sister has posted a couple more items on her Etsy site.

And... she said she'll give free shipping to anyone who mentions my name :D

I personally wouldn't pay $40 for it, but I don't buy many handbags these days and I'm not up on what people pay for things like this. In store, I'd probably pay no more than $20 personally, but since she's making them herself, maybe $30? But other people might think $40 is fine, I have no idea. They are gorgeous, I can tell you that. :)

Being a sewer myself and also making bags, I would not charge anything less. Some people loof for quality handmade goods will be most happy to pay for them.
A very good rule of thumb is at the very least 2x the cost of fabric and materials.
Am so happy to see that Gustav did not wreck the havoc all were worried about. Thankful also that you are out of the danger area.
Best wishes to all Louisiana friends.

You get what you pay for...I think $40 is appropriate, and that's no lie!

I wouldn't charge any more, but I wouldn't charge less than $30. She took the time and the materials to make it, and it is super cute.

Lauren...I'm not sure how long it takes your sis to make each bag. She should give it a shot...after all you don't know if you don't try. Hope u and ur family are safe.

I really think that is reasonable. I would pay that much for a bag and I know from my attempts at sewing how much effort actually goes into such projects.

Me too - I think that is a great price for it.

as a designer who (needs) to make money for the time i spend on something, but understands not wanting to charge much, I can see her dilemna. BUT keep in mind 1. cost of materials 2. how long it takes to make a bag. These aren't a copy/print job, they take time and skill. She dosen't need to be just breaking even or it's not worth all the time shipping and communicating with her buyers, etsy fees and paypal fees (even though they are small, they do exist) as well. Do some research on etsy, see what other bag-makers are charging and what is selling.

I think the price is good. Like everything in life you just have to find the right buyer. I love beautiful things but only buy/use one handbag at a time. Gotta save the money for retirement and college funds. Thanks for stopping by my blog. I will be happy to answer any questions you may have re. being an Air Force spouse. It can be difficult at times but it's also very rewarding. I was as proud of a wife as they come. You are now in the military too. Whatever your hubby's rank you are always one higher. ;)

if it's something someone wants, they will pay that for it! i think 40 sounds like a nice number, and it's appropriate...

I think it's just the right price. Perhaps she can post more pictures to show detail?

I would love to buy it, but we just recenlty ran into some issues and I can't spend a dime on non-necesities.

I've bookmarked her site, though, in case our finances ease up soon!
